Freight traffic in the Alpine Space:
"Regionalverband" has developed a new connection for the transport of goods from Ulm to Milan
Shifting goods from road to rail is rather discussed and promised than practiced. Within an EU-supported project (AlpFRail) and together with an operator the "Regionalverband Donau Iller" has succeeded in developing a competitive railway connection from Ulm to Milan. After the change of the time table (in autumn/winter) this train will connect the economic areas Stuttgart/Ulm/Augsburg including Allgäu and Bodensee with the Lombardy every day. Large companies, medium-sized businesses and forwarding agencies have already shown their interest and have made first confirmations that they will use the train. The spatial dispersal of these enterprises is attached in an overview showing that this connection is interesting within a radius of 80 km.
