The role of the Port of Koper is getting more and more important in the process of connecting Central Europe to the Adriatic ports. There are huge amounts of containers especially from Asia which are normally brought to the Northern port range. This situation leads to a demand for alternative solutions for capacity problems in the Northern port range and economic problems, i.e. spending time and money by shipping containers coming from Asia around Europe. At the moment, container ships with 4.000 TEU can dock at the Port of Koper. The depth of water is 11 meters. Regular lines for container transport are already being offered by Evergreen and CMA. The new mole II will be built at the latest until 2010. Then, container sips with a capacity of 6.000 TEU will be able to dock at the Port of Koper.
